Amber® Mill Firing Schedule Update: Enhancing Usability & Aesthetics
Share
In response to recent user insights, we are pleased to announce a revised firing schedule for Amber® Mill, designed to improve both usability and final restoration quality.
At DB Lab Supplies, we continuously invite our customers and partners to provide product feedback on DB Lab Supplies products, plus products from our trusted partners. This feedback helps us to optimise our products, ensuring the best outcomes for technicians, clinicians and patients.
Why the Update?
Feedback from Amber Mill users highlighted the following key points:
- Amber® Mill’s translucency was perceived as too bright in some cases.
- Shade and translucency results appeared closer to VITA, while users preferred outcomes resembling E.max.
- Some new users found achieving correct translucency results challenging.
- Additional guidance on translucency adjustment was requested.
The New Amber Firing Schedule
The updated temperature recommendations are designed to make translucency control easier and more predictable.
(Note: If you have already optimised your own firing schedule, you may continue using it. The revised schedule is provided as a reference.)

What are the Key Benefits of Amber® Mill?
Amber® Mill remains the machinable lithium disilicate block of choice for CAD/CAM systems, offering:
Empowering Aesthetic Longevity - Superior strength (450 MPa biaxial flexural strength post-crystallisation).

Enhanced Edge Integrity - Optimised machinability with reduced chipping.
Freedom of Translucency - Easily adjust translucency from HT+ to MO with heat treatment.

Lifelike Aesthetics - Natural opalescence and fluorescence for restorations that replicate enamel.

Veneers fabricated with Amber® Mill clearly stand out as an example of exceptional aesthetic quality. Amber® Mill combines physical strength and optimum aesthetics in perfect balance, resulting in final restorations that exhibit both high stability and a natural appearance when placed in the mouth.
Important Precautions When Using Amber® Mill
- Do not exceed 885°C during any heat treatment (including re-firing).
- It is possible to reduce translucency with further heat treatment, but not to increase it.
- Always use the Amber® Mill Visual Calibration Kit to measure actual furnace temperature and adjust settings accordingly.
- Crystallisation firing must be performed under vacuum.
Supporting Amber Mill Users with Better Guidance
This update empowers dental professionals with clearer pathways to achieve the desired translucency and closer-to-natural shade results. Combined with Amber® Mill’s proven mechanical strength and natural aesthetics, these refinements ensure a more predictable and satisfying workflow for both new and experienced users.
